David Stone...
This act consisted of Dave attending what appears to be a dinner table at a restaurant.
We see him do his "you can check my sleeve" gag and then produce a wine bottle... done very well.
Essentially, he makes a card appear, then appear again inside "the pepper" as he called it. Concluded by a re-steal of the bottle, and then production of his shoes.
Good points...
Probably the strongest magic out of all the finalists... though this is debatable.
Never boring...
Bad points...
That line that will now be immortalised... "because your card is in the paper, in side, this, pepper, is the I'M KIDDING!" (audience in stunned silence)
No one understood that joke. Surely the biggest letdown of a punchline ever.
Basically, he pretended that the chosen card was in the bottle of pepper (or paper as he pronounced it), then delivered the "kidding" line. My lord; pronunciation, timings; he didn't get anything right here!
Noone had any idea what he was on about.
Also, he indulges in one of the most annoying things possible; use magicians lingo. "You know some people do card manipulation.."
WTF? Come on frenchy, get a thesaurus!
And his emotional deconstruction afterwards...
"you know, I am an artist, and you only see your faults"
Well, at least he was honest, even though a little pretentious.
An incredibly skilled performer, and often a good performer too. But that was a little tragic.
The top five of FISM should have better standards than that.
